First lens I reach for when shooting landscapes
If you need a wide angle lens with superb build quality, weather resistance, great optics, superb colour and little distortion then buy this one.I shoot a lot of landscapes, sometimes in harsh conditions like the English Lake district or French Alps, and need kit which will stand up to the abuse I give it. Highly recommended
I am using this with a 50D but hope one day to go full frame and hence the reason why I was willing to spend more on lenses. Super landscape lens for full-size sensor
I cannot recommend this lens enough... for wide angle landscape and travel photography this lens is superb. I have used this lens for several years on a Canon 5D and previously a Canon 300D and Canon 300 film and have always found the results to be superb. Truly my most used L lens!
If you are reading this then you know that this is one of the most useful zoom L lens and probably one of the cheapest L quality lens out there. If you have a crop body (which I did start with) it is a truly remarkable walk-around lens which would occupy serious time on my 450D. Its that good!It has plenty of uses. Sharp and well made
I use this lens with an EOS 40D. It feels well made and its as sharp as a tack. I'd been thinking of buying it for some time and after using it I'm glad I did.

Great walk around for crop frame
I was bitten by the 'L' bug when I bought my 70-200 zoom, this lens has replaced my 17-85 IS USM; in itself not a bad lens but not a patch on this one.Always sharp, constant aperture means less mucking about when zooming, a joy to handle and a great buy at this price. Great lens
Having recently moved to an eos 350d, I found that my 28-105 lens on a 1.6 x digital camera was not wide enough to be a "standard" lens. The 17-40L is just the lens I needed. Great quality and pictures. What is more - as I upgrade to a better camera (ie one with a 1 x 35mm equivalent) this becomes a wide angle zoom. I can also use this lens with my previous canon 35mm camera. Avoid the EF-S range - they dont work with full frame cameras.....

Unleash your full frame DSLR!
Unlike most of the other reviewers, I enjoy this lens with the actual angle of view for 35mm format with my full frame sensor EOS-5D. It is stunning in terms of both quality of image and perspective. The super-wide 17mm (about 11mm in small sensor language) is superb for creative shots of ordinary items and structures. And the depth of field is breathtaking.
