Canon EOS 5D Mark II is easily my camera of choice over the Nikon D700

The Catherine Deneuve of cameras
I've had one of these since January 2010. I upgraded from my original Canon 5D, and I get the impression that a lot of people have made the same transition. Good but could have been even better ....
I'll begin by giving you some backround info. I have been a photographer for about 10 years. During this time I have mainly been shooting with film cameras & happened to use Canon. I began with a second hand Canon EOS 300 film camera & finally progressed to the fantastic Canon EOS 1V pro film camera. Not perfect but suits me fine
I've owned the 5D Mk II for about 6 weeks now but have held off adding a review until I'd had a chance to really use it on a trip and in the studio.Canon SLRs all have largely similar handling so if you're used to using one, the function of the buttons will be largely familiar though perhaps not located in the same place. Excellent but flawed
There are a lot of mis-informed reviews here on both sides of the argument in my opinion. So I'll try to clear things up as I see them.I've had this camera for about 10 months now and am both pleased with it and mildly disappointed.I'm pleased with it because it takes amazing pictures and deals with noise at low resolutions brilliantly - I have no personal experience of the competition but from what I've read, when everything comes together and the camera isn't held back by its flaws...

Fabulous Image Quality, Average Focusing
A great upgrade to the original 5D, with image quality to rival the 1Ds3 which costs twice as much or more, but the focusing system has been taken straight out of the old model and even if has been tweaked a bit, it just isn't good enough on a camera of this price (especially compared to the new Nikons). 12 Months of using the 5D Mark 2

A sad day for camera reviews
What an amateurish lot of reviews for such a good camera! The 5D Mk II seems to have landed in all the wrong hands ..The bottom line is that this camera is superb. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is an excellent tool in the hands of anyone serious about photography. Comparing it to models I previously owned (400D, 10D, 20D, 5D), this camera delivers in every single aspect.
