Europe v poor
It's fine in the Uk, though it sometimes reroutes the long way, but in Europe it is terrible. The first and biggest problem is the ludicrously long update time to even load the European maps. This is actually a bit of a con on Garmin's part. I certainly expected them to be already on the sat nav when I paid for the "European" version. Anyway, it took repeated hangs and crashes and three full download attempts to get Italy and France on there, download times were listed in hundreds then mere tens

Watch out for the free update
Sat nav is fine but beware the free map update that you are entitled to. I bought the Nuvi that has maps for Europe for going on holiday. I thought I would update the maps (which takes ages to download from Garmin) but the satnav did not have enough memory for the map update. I ended up updating only part of Europe but this wiped the previous full europe map that came with the device.

Just what I needed
This is the second one of these I've bought! (Hubby lost the first one) The original was the wide screen version but I don't really see the advantage of it. This one does the same at a slightly cheaper price. We wanted it primarily to take abroad (Italy) It's ok although she tends to get a bit confused in and around Lucca. You are supposed to be able to get updates but I was unable to do this. It does what it should - if I could do as I'm told I'd probably be fine!

Garmin Nuvi 255
The principle deciding factor in buying this product was due to the price as my Tom Tom had recently broken. Admittedly it does not have all the bells and whistles associated with some sat navs, but if you are looking for a sat nav that will get you from "A" to "B" at a good value price this is the item for you.As most blokes I didnt read any of the instructions, but even so it is easy to set-up and get going. The display is pretty clear as is the voice command.It tells you the expected time

Piece of rubbish
The problems with this GPS (and oh lord, there are so very many) began on the first day when it worked for 2 minutes after being removed from the box and then went completely dead. I spoke to Garmin over the phone after waiting 45 minutes and they instructed me to send it to them and I would get a new one within two weeks.
