Watch the memory ! not enough for the current update on maps
I decided given that the unit has been langishing in a dusty warehouse for a couple of years, I would treat it to a map update. That is when the fun started. Following what apeared to be a succesfull operation of 3 hours, off I went into the wide blue yonder, only to find I was unable to find anywhere in the UK Nownt, Nada, Nothing, Zero! Call to Garmin, first guy seemed great "just reload" "should be fine" . Fortunatly I had to call back to check something, next guy, different story. Cut to

The best SatNav system used to date
Having used two other SatNavs previously, this is by far the best, the easiest to use and it has the benefit of Traffic Information without needing to concentrate on whether there is a traffic jam or road works that may interfere with your journey. The benefit of the Nuvi approach is that it will amend its 'best route' to reflect traffic conditions, road works etc. There is one journey that I make infrequently and found a route that seemed easy. Not So Good
The unit as supplied does not have enough memory to hold Europe-wide maps, so I bought a suitable SD card. This worked OK, though downloading refreshed maps took hours till Garmin replaced their PC software last year.It can take a couple of minutes to start up - doesn't seem to be any reason why this varies so much, and it doesn't seem able to find satellites on the move - need to wait till it's fully fired up before moving off.Audio directions are often mistimed - either a couple of

Nice little Gadget
After downloading maps etc from the Garmin website, the rest was easy. The instructions were easy to follow and the touch screen worked well; the step by step visual prompts, great. So far it has taken me to unfamiliar destinations with easy. No problems with this gadget. Wont hesitate to recommend it.

Garmin Nuvi 255W Widescreen Satellite Navigation System with Full EU Mapping
Bought this SatNav about 2 years ago, there are better now available. Bought my mother a Navman recently which cost less than the Garmin and is far better in my opinion. Navman has better technology and is slimmer too.
