For what we needed, much better than a Tom Tom :)
OK, we didn't know which one to buy, so plumped for the Tom Tom One. Then swapped it for this. Nuvi 255
Excellent low cost sat nav. Does everything you need and is compact enough to fit in your back pocket. Start up is really quick and the device is easy to use. You can also charge it from the supplied car 12V connector, your laptop, or (in my case) my motorola mobile phone charger did the trick.

Simplicity
As a first timer to Sat Nav usage, I found this product so simple to understand and easy to use. The instruction booklet was minimal but it had sufficient information to get me started....all of 10 minutes! Really pleased with the simplicity of the product and so far very reliable at locating the places to visit.

Worthwhile despite some irritations
This is my first Satnav, bought primarily for a Continental road trip earlier this year to get us to specific locations in unfamiliar towns - eg, pre-booked hotels en route in France and Spain, and then our accommodation at our final destination on the Costa Blanca. Great bit of kit, but no street names!
My first sat nav and I spent hours trying to decide which to get and eventually decided on the 255. Reviews have not been good regards the traffic system regardless of manufacturer so I didn't go for that but I was keen to get street names called. I bought Garmin Nuvi 255 last month because of brand name and European Maps.In general, I am very pleased with this product. The re-calculation is quick and display is bright and clear. You can pocket it easily as it is very light and small - I take it with me after parking my car. The European Mapping has helped me to reach my hotels in Switzerland without any problems.
