Good value DVB(T) recorder.
Yes, it has only one digital tuner, but with all new TV sets being digital, this should not present a problem unless you've only got an analogue TV. If you must have twin digital tuners do not buy this.If you simply want to replace your VHS recorder, then this machine will do everything you want. Picture quality is as good as the 26" LCD TV it is connected to can manage, so there is no perceptible difference between live and recorded - don't know how good the picture is with full HD TVs....

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
We just purchased an LG TV and as we were thoroughly impressed with it, I begged my wife for us to get this recorder unit. Well, I wanted to share my experience with you all. Here's the good the bad and the ugly. The Good:* It does what it's mainly meant to do - records to HDD or DVD fine. Plays DVDs fine. Can record to HDD and transfer to DVD. Can record a program and watch it as it records.* There is no noise from the unit.* There are no adverts like on Panasonic units.* It's ...

Very misleading & now faulty!
Has anyone had a problem with recording? My recordings are suddenly playing back blurred yet the picture through the box is clear as a whistle so it is not aerial related.I totally agree with Robin, this model is in the dark ages for today's technology and should not command the price that it is does. I just bought one two months ago for the digital switchover and I asked all the right questions about being able to record 1 channel whilst watching another and was very mislead, this model d...

Fantastic, highly recommended
We were very worried about buying this item after reading all the negative reviews, but saw that most these types of items had bad reviews. We decided on the 498 as it had more space than the 497. We wanted it as a dvd recorder and it works great as one. I can't comment on the freeview as we don't use it as the telly has it and we have sky. And most tele's nowadays have freeview so I don't think of the freeview as really being an issue. The setup was easy, the instructions are as good as a...

Be Warned
They are good reviews for these types of recorders - but no-one seems to realise that they have a fundemental problem. They only have one Digital tuner and one Analogue tuner. Of course the analogue tuner will soon be as good as useless.Since there is only one digital tuner - this means that when you come to record a program either on the Hard Drive or the DVD - then you can no-longer change the channel from that being recorded. So if you use this as your ONLY means of watching Freevi...

Quality DVD Recorder
When my little used Samsung DVD HR755 (250GB) decided to stop playing pre-recorded DVDs, I decided to give LG a try. I'm very glad I did as the LG RHT498H is a great little machine and operates not only faster, but gives better results (DVD and TV) than the Samsung.Only one thing which lets things down and it's been mentioned by other reviewers, the operator's manual is very, very poor. Unlike the Samsung manuals (TV and DVD) which cover every aspect of the machine's operation, the LG manual ...

Spend the extra cash. Buy a better brand.
When you get your LG DVD Recorder home the first disappointment will be that despite its snazzy looks, the build quality is utter pants; the DVD tray wobbles about and is made from wafer-thin plastic, the remote is poor and some of the menu options read like the village idiot wrote them. The second disappointment will be next day when you turn on the TV and find the machine has locked up during its firmware auto-update. You will have to pull the plug from the wall to reset the machine. Au...

Looks great, doesn't work
It is difficult to review this product, since I never got it to work.We have an LG digital television and so assumed that a DVD recorder from the same manufacturer would work well with it. Unfortunately when setting it up it was totally unable to tune in to any of the freeview channels available in our area, channels that the tv picks up perfectly. So I returned it. On the plus side it did look very smart. Next time I think I'll do what all my friends suggested and buy a Panasonic.A wor...

lg rht498h
Probably the worst piece of equipment I've owned, it was virtually useless.Very slow or did not respond to remote, picture would go dark or 'negative' colour, completely failed to record a timed recording set via the epg, insted it recorded off the analogue tuner which was not tuned in anyway! when I next turned it on it had lost all digital channels and decided to display non-existant analogue channel, LG really ought to get their act together, previouly owned LG dvd recorder with analogue ...

instructions and ease of use
After all the comments regarding the instructions I found them easy to understand and within a few days had no trouble in the operation of the player, although having said that it is best if one already owns a Digital/HDD TV as that assists when wishing to record a digital programme and also watch another at the same time. All in all a very good purchase and I would certainly recommend it to anyone for price and functions
