Life's Good
I'm fussy when it comes to DVD players. I want quality on a budget; I want upscaling to 1080p; I want multi-format compatibility (DVD +/- RW and R etc) and I want to be able to hack it to multi-region.When my Sumvision Phoenix gave up the ghost on Saturday I started the search. Awful product, great amazon service
Awful. The digital TV tuner and DVD playback were both well below par. Claims upscaling DVD to 1080p but the quality was dire, full of blocky artifacts and squeaks, unwatchable. Sound quality was also dire, thin and weedy. Quality of Freeview was much worse than tuner on TV or on old dvd recorder: this one was fuzzy, imprecise, with a strange colour balance. Great, considering
Went from a Samsung to this model and this is a giant leap in comparison.Clear pictures, easy recording, freeview no problems, lets me plug in a usb stick (!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Great stuff for the price. I found the negative reviews here slightly fair - it's not for advanced users. Cheap but very cheerful. It's simple to set up and has a quick boot up time. Really, really like this machine.

Almost very good!
There's a host of problems with this DVD recorder.The up-scaling keeps reverting to it's lowest resolution, 576i, and there's no button on the remote to change it so you have to get up bend down and press a button. [EDIT: The workaround for this problem is to always turn the TV on first.]The built-in freeview is pretty good except for two major problems the first being the problem with the up-scaling and the second being that the sound often drops out for a second. Good unit but a few niggles then it dies
The nice thing about this recorder is it records on both + and - DVD formats so you don't have to worry about getting the right blank DVDs. It can also record to +DL disks if you need extra recording time and in the box there is a SCART lead which most manufacturers leave out.As well as a built in freeview tuner, the LG still has a traditional analogue tuner so if you don't have freeview yet, you can still use the LG until digital switch over. Life's Good with this LG
I bought the DRT389H to replace my faulty Hitachi DVD/HDD recorder. The specification for the LG was good without being spectacular. Fine machine
If you are in the market for a no nonsense dvd recorder, this model should be seriously considered. It does all the things described in the listing above. It is easy to set up, and I particularly like the transparent menus. the machine is very good and the epg is quite easy to use . the only things I don't like is the dvd tray seems very flimsy and no front mounted svhs socket .

top quality on a budget
