Excellent but not for the complete novice
I see that people are still reading this review after a couple of years, and I appreciate all of the positive feedback, so only fair to keep it up to date.I stick with most of what I say below, but will be switching to a Home Server running Windows Home Server 2011. The NAS is fine as a simple file server or backup device, but the technology is old and the laborious procedure for updating the Squeezebox software (main reason I originally bought the DUO) has become too much of a niggle, and...

Very good product
I bought this to use as a home server to safely store all the files in our household so as to make them accessible from any of our three computers. I haven't tried Bit Torrent or any of the photo sharing stuff yet.Although you can buy this product with one disk ready installed, I would recommend purchasing it without disks as fitting the drives is so easy and you will save a great deal of money - in my case well over £150. Four screws (provided) to fit the drive into the caddy, slide it ...

great, but lots of hassle to get there
After *much* fretting, faffing, and googling, in an effort to get things working, I now have a new ReadyNas Duo serving music to a Netgear Squeezebox Boom, holding backups of all my documents and photos, attaching a usb printer to the network, and I can say, yes, its great. Is exactly what I was looking for. However, I am not happy about how easily much of the hassle could have been avoided by a bit more effort (pre-install the latest versions of software) and documentation (especially for...

Excellent Companion for Squeezebox
As an audiophile I wanted to store my music library on a network attached storage device. I had looked at products offered by Linn, Naim and Meridian for accessing such music - but they were all prohibitively expensive.I'm using a modestly priced Squeezebox Classic alongside the ReadyNAS Duo. Setting up is a breeze. You can locate the ReadyNAS anywhere is the home, and connect it either via your wireless router, or PowerLine ethernet adaptor, for access by your Squeezebox somewhere else in...

Easy to setup, working well
After long deliberations over what the best option would be to increase storage, I decided to get this NAS and put two Samsung 1000GB Spinpoint F1 SATA II drives into it.Plugged the device into the network and after 10 minutes the blue light went solid as expected. Installed the Raid software (on a Vista laptop) and left most options as presented. It offered to add a USB printer which I connected and it recognised immediately. At the end of the setup the NAS was recognised by the rou...

Poor for multiple users
This device was going to be the answer to all my different linux boxes and hard drives everywhere.Installation was easy and it was on the network quickly. It was working fantastically - for a single user. Then as soon as multiple users (3+) started to read from it, it would lock up, drop off the network. The forums are pretty much useless, but filled with others with similiar woes -- misery loves comfort. The only redeeming factor was that i got a full refund from it. The...

POOR. Didnt work for me
I recently bought a NAIM Unitiqute. The product is designed to stream (Wired or wireless) music from DAB, Internet Radio, Attached devices such as Ipod and CD players. It also has the capability of streaming music stored on a Upnp enabled NAS drive. I decided that I would copy all my CD's onto a NAS in FLAC lossless format, and wanted a NAS which would work without the need for a computer to stream the data, so the NAS would essentially act as my CD collection. The NAIM product also has an...

Virtually Useless
I've had this two months now and have just had a continous stream of problems with it. It is slow far from intuitive to set up, noisy and unreliable. I would avoid it at all costs. The helpdesk is pretty much the worse I've come across and apart from stating the obvious have failed to solve any issues. The latest issue is that the printer server now appears to have failed. The free drive offer took so long to arrive it is too late to return the NAS. I suspect I've just wasted my mo...

Useless
I would consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about computers, however I am no networking expert. The ReadyNAS portrays an Image of being very simple to use with its web interface, however I have had nothing but problems with it. After weeks of assorted problems and flaky performance when it worked at all, despite my best efforts to remedy the problems with the help of the Netgear forums, I have come to the conclusion that this is just a poor product.I'm cutting my losses and giving the...

Noisy and two hardware failures out of two
I bought one of these from a French Company that claims to be the biggest online retailer in Europe. Big mistake! It didn't work and I'm still waiting for a refund after many months. I was also informed that UK law did not apply to them as they are a French company! As they couldn't supply a replacement unit, in a satisfactory time, I bought another one from a different retailer. This one didn't work either. The first unit was totally dead. No lights, no noise, no anything! The second unit ...
