Surprisingly good, despite the red light!

This model (v.4) of the DG834 is, I believe, built around the Broadcom chipset, which is what BT uses in its exchanges. For this reason, web research tells me, it connects faster and more reliably, because Broadcom is speaking unto Broadcom. I just upgraded to ADSL2+ and the Netgear is connecting at just over 15.6mb/s, with the upstream link at around 1.2mb/s. Actual download/upload speeds are lower, of course, but it doesn't get a lot better over BT copper. For some reason the 'internet' light

Be warned - Netgear support is atrocious

On the day I took the router out of the box I called Netgear's support line (as my computer was not reading the installation CD). They refused to provide any support at all, saying that the 90 day entitlement to support had already expired (even though I'd only just bought the router). As I protested they hung up on me! Avoid Netgear products if you want any customer support!

Not compatible with any of the Activision Modern Warfare/Call of Duty games

Does what it says on the tin, easy to set up, and youre good to go. However I would avoid if you are thinking of playing Call of Duty or Modern Warfare games online (or any games over the internet from Activision), as it does not allow connection to these ports, either on xbox Live, PSN or Steam, have tried port forwarding, port triggering, setting up DMZ etc for these games with this router but to no avail.

Works very well

I bought this router to replace one of a nondescript type,supplied by a former ISP. I could never get it to do DHCP!The NetGear router was easy to set up. It works very well. Having DHCP has made it much easier to set up my computers, especially when running Linux.My only complaint is that the router gets hotter than I would have liked. Perhaps due to the lack of ventilation, colour of the case (white) or excessive power consumption. Must measure it sometime.

Netgear DG834 - good but could benefit from better instructions

I had to buy a replacement Modem as the one I had from my ISP was not compatible with Windows 7, and I really did want a wired Modem. The reviews were very helpful, especially the one that reasured that this Modem will work on a Windows 7 machine. The fact that this is a Router as well is a bonus. The only reason I give this product only 4 stars is that setting up was not at all easy - there is a set up Wizard hidden away in the help files which I eventually stumbled upon, but this is not the
