Not fit for purpose
 
I purchased the FVS318 v3 to enable VPN access to our network. However, after a couple of weeks messing about and calls to technical support we STILL haven't been able to get the Netgear VPN Client to connect to the router. Netgear have even tested this in house and could not get their VPN client to connect. The second problem is that, despite being a UK device, it does not support PPPoA (used by UK ADSL). We managed to connect it via PPPoE, but our ISP say they won't support such a ...

Worth Having
 
The unit comes with 8 Lan ports. The install wizard makes it fairly painless to install. We have used a the FVS318 for a couple of weeks and so far we haven't had too many problems.The security is sound and can be be connected to either via IPSEC, PPTP, or L2TP.

Almost a good piece of kit
 
For the average wired office or home network this is a good piece of kit. It works well with almost all of the devices on my network. My ISP does DHCP if the device connected to the cable modem has the right MAC address. Fortunately you can set the MAC address of the FSV318.Where it falls down is the DMZ. My son has an X-Box and for multiplayer games this requires direct access to the internet (don't worry about breaching your firewall, the X-Box doesn't interact with any of the other d...

On-time delivery, good service
 
No problems with the Amazon/merchant. My only issue is with the product itself. It works fine and is a powerful firewall. But they break down a little too often. This is our third unit in five years, but we do work them hard. They seem to like to get stuck in test mode and then they become unreliable and then die. Still, better the devil you know. Way too busy to find a more reliable replacement with exact same features. These are good units - perhaps we have a local issue that breaks them - so ...

Worst Router Ever
 
I bought this for our office to hook up to a 15Mb leased line and to it's credit it was easy to configure and appeared functional.However, the faults are severe and are still present with the latest firmware.1) Throughput is poor even without VPN being used.2) The device is unreliable and requires daily or twice daily reboots.I think this is an important point which needs to be re-iterated - this device which is intended to allow remote access is only usable in a situation w...
