Beware of your neighbour's routers
I bought this as a plug-in replacement for my excellent Netgear DG824M so installation took literally a few minutes, just a matter of switching on, plugging in the phone line, connecting to the router and entering the broadband username (no password needed with BT). I got 54Mb connections and configurgured the security and it was great. Until I powered it off and restrarted it. Then network speed dropped to 1Mb or less, the range was terrible and I was cursing the unreliable heap of junk. I tho...

An improvement on my two year old previous wireless as long as you don't get interference
I have had this unit since it came out ages ago. I have never had any problems with it apart from having to move channels due to a number of close wireless routers using the same default channel 6 (I moved it to channel 2 as noted below).I very occasionally have to restart it (a few times a year), but it has been much more reliable than my previous wireless router in this regard (runs cooler too). Big new is they have just upgraded it to DRAFT 2.0 standard and brough in some nifty new feature...

Does what it says on the tin....and more!
This router does exactly what it says on the tin but to get the best out of it you do need to buy the network cards to go with it as the whole system is almost proprietary . It does work well with legacy equipment but performance is limited though set up was a breeze in all cases, I have never finished an installation with so little effort or head scratching. The pci card is so much better in pure performance terms than the pcmcia card and the proof of the pudding can be summarised in three ar...

a word of warning for upgraders from an 834g...
If you're planning to upgrade an existing Netgear 834g modem router with the Netgear 834n version then please be advised that the 834n did not give me any more range as its 2.5yrs old predecessor. It claims on the package that it gives you "15x the speed and 10x the coverage of a 'g' product". I did not experience this at all. I am an IT professional and gave the product a very good shot for a day, but then decided to return it.My advice: if this is your first WLAN modem/router, then you c...

Firmware upgrade not inlcluded in setup disc - beware if there are problems!
Having had page loading problems with every website including Google UK with the DG834N and the WN518B notebook adaptor, I was told by Netgear that I should try a firmware upgrade, which meant going through the whole setup procedure all over again. The upgrade was dated in July 2006 and I purchased these items in November. Furthermore, the upgrade makes specific reference to problems loading Google UK and Argos, not exactly a minor issue! I found it unacceptable that I should have t...

It was great... for the first 5 mins
Well my router had a maximum uptime of 5 mins before it konked out possibly from overheating. I should have known there was something wrong with it when I had to do a factory reset for it to let me login to the admin panel (I'm on a mac so I can't use the supplied setup CD, which is really POINTLESS!) all it does is launch up a browser with the router congig screen which you can easily access from typing in the router's ip address.Any way the problem was that the router wouldn't power on p...

'Does what it says on the tin'
Have used Netgear equipment before with no problems. This item was no exception. Looks good, runs cool and gives great wifi coverage. Now have two iMacs and a DS Lite sharing the broadband connection flawlessly.

Great wireless solution from Netgear
This is a superb piece of kit from Netgear. I had decided to upgrade my current average wireless router and was looking for more speed and range, this is what I got from the DG834N, the looks are pretty empressive too. I would recommend using with a WN511B PC card, which I got free!!!!

Perfect and at a great price!
Buying this was the best thing I have done in a while, running it on mac os x, I had it working by the time I could put my username and password into the boxes for my ISP. This is the perfect upgrade from my last modem/router (DG834) and I can now have the Nintendo Wii online 24hrs a day and can start using the wifi for my laptop around the house. It looks great and I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to go wireless.

Netgear 834n - Unreliable, not recommended shop around
I bought the 834n to replace my 834g for better wireless range. It was very easy to setup as the procedure is excatly the same as 834g. However, the wireless does not work not even in the same room, I keep having to reboot the rooter everytime I need to use it, and it keeps on dropping. I have downloaded the latest drivers to no avail. The connections from the router to the pcs keep on dropping for both type of connections wire and wireless, and it appears to be be slower than its predecessor...
