OK, but temperamental and lacks top-end features
Caveat: I am a network security specialist, so your mileage may well vary!Initial installation and set-up of this unit is a breeze, and the web-based interface is easy enough to navigate... I had mine installed within 5 minutes of unpacking, and was browsing the Internet within another 10 minutes (at most).I have had the unit for about a month now, and it works fine for the most part. I especially love the inclusion of WPA2-PSK(AES) as an encryption option. Remember, WEP ...

Good in parts - like a curate's egg!!
I bought this device almost a year ago to replace the excellent dg834pn (MIMO) ADSL router. I have almost binned the wnr854t many times due to innumerable firmware bugs. These have manifested themselves in many ways. For example, the unit will crash, not provide an internet connection (Note: You will need a separate ADSL modem to get online), and fail mid-way through a network file transfer. Over the months I have upgraded the firmware many many times from netgear's website. You will...

Do not buy!
This product fails after a set period (mine lasted 4 months), do a google search on it - you will find some netgear blogs on the problem, it is impossible to get it replaced using product support - looks good but if it doesn't work what use are looks! It has put be off ever buying a product from Netgear again their customer service is non existant!

It's great....BUT...
Best looking router on the market, works a charm with Intel based wireless N notebooks once you get the latest firmware on there, however...it WILL fail between 6 to 12 months after you buy it. It happened to me and an awful lot of other people (just google WNR854T dead) and you'll get the idea. Netgear support was hopeless, getting the thing RMA'd was torture (think phonejacker ISP sketch).Best avoided.

Broke after 12 months
Great spec router with good admin functions and range. Just stopped working after 1 year though. Just the power light comes on now so I am having to go through the process of claiming under warranty. By searching on Google it seems I am not the only one to have experienced this short-lived product. I hope my replacement lasts longer.

Good speed and range
I bought a refurbished unit for ?40 and a couple of matching WN121T usb adapters for my desktop PCs. I upgraded from a Belkin Pre-N router which was struggling to reach through two floors to my laptop and Squeezebox Duet controller. I found the speed and reliability of the connection much improved even for my laptops and Duet controller using the older 802.11g networking. One of the PCs with the WN121T usb adapter connected at an indicated 162Mbps even through two floors which was a...

Thoroughly Meh
I had high hopes hence the 3 stars but I have had problems with the WiFi nothing to warrant sending it back, just very annoying drop outs and devices refusing to connect when they work fine elsewhere. I live in a 1 bed flat and I just about get signal on a 802.ll g device at the furthest point away I can be.All that said its not a bad router for ?59, I just expected much more from Netgear.

Pixmania are very naughty regarding the description
In that they don't say it's from europe, not the UK. Ok this isn't a deal-breaker for some but the problem is with the power supply in the box. It's a 2-pin euro type plug. You can get a euro to uk adapter (from Maplin) but it won't work as the netgear adaptor is a power brick not a lead so will not fit. Shame that as I was looking forward to using the router. I have to purchase from elsewhere now. Lastly, the voltage and amps are correct but for me the euro power brick is a deal-breaker.

Light, Easy to set up, Blindingly fast.
Works with the top speeds offered by isp's on the Web and shows vry little speed degradation on auxiliary computers. Has firewall and the ability to block certain sites. We have always had NetGear and other models have been good - this is superb.

Drop it !
Despite installing the firmware 'upgrade' this router has the most dramatic and annoying drops I've ever witnessed: random and typically 90 second recovery times - rubbish for voice or gaming. I have Virgin Media cable and after a months perseverance (and my wife's moaning and me moaning to Virgin), I've given up and purchased the D-Link DIR-855.
