Impressive performance for the money
I am strictly an amateur photographer who likes to record my real passion, travel, so I bought this lens 2 months ago. I can't comment on long term durability, however I have just come back from 2 weeks travel in Alaska where it performed faultlessly. It was constantly swapped with the standard lens on my D40 which I used to shoot over 1100 images of landscapes and wildlife. The lens coped well with experimental shots of birds in full flight at maximum zoom and produced suprisingly sharp images....

A very good lens
I bought this lens to compliment my 18-55 VR lens which came with my Nikon D5000. It's a very good buy but after a few weeks I decided that I would prefer the 18-200 VR lens to replace my 2 lenses and I also bought a very fast 35mm f1.8 lens for poor lighting situations. The 18-200 is certainly the most used but it is expensive! VR works brilliantly on the Nikon lenses and you won't really realise just how good it is until you turn it off and compare the results. excelent next purchase lense
Excelent next purchase lens for my D40 in the next step into the world of digital photo's. point and shoot, auto focus with reduced camera shake, simple Nikon bayonet fit. I would recomend a UV lens on the front for a bit of protection. 52mm screw thread makes this compatable with many other attachements and filters. For me a good solid buy at a fair price.

Quite good lens
This lens is fairly sharp, but there is pronounced vignetting, the vibration control is not excellent and it has a PLASTIC lens mount -- so it will need to be handled with care. A good price, though, for what it is.

The only other lens you need
Let's face it, 55mm is not quite long enough for traditional portraiture, so a zoom telephoto is justified for a variety of photographic reasons. This one zooms to 200mm, which is quite long enough for all but the most committed sports photographers and keen bird watchers. Don't let the f/5.6 tag put you off: the VR gives you an extra two stops of useable shutter speed, and lets you get photos that would have been impossible otherwise (except with some very expensive kit).I haven't had it lon...

Excellent lens
I bought this Lens for my dads camera and it is completely worth it, He only had the standard lens but we found this lens and decided to give it a try and well it has been worth it.We took it to silverstone with us recently and I managed to get some really good shots of the F1 drivers as they was on the parade lap.I would recommend this to anyone who has just bought a Nikon camera.

Worth every penny
Got this 55-200mm lens within 5 working days, tried it out at the RAF Waddington air show today 5th July 09, took 98 shots and every one looks great, sharp, detailed pics. Only down side is, I had to buy a larger bag to hold the extra lens. The Lowepro sling shot 100 AW is perfect for the job.
