EXCELLENT BLURAY PLAYER
Ordering and speed of delivery were A1 - as has been everything else purchsed from Amazon.Anyone wanting an excellent Bluray player should look no further than this Philips model. The picture quality and sound are up there with the best and, a great added advantage, is this player`s ability to play just about any type of disc thrown at it, including VCD SVCD! Additionally it is very easy to hack enabling it to play any regions DVD - note it is not possible to hack the Bluray side at present...

Good Performance, Well-Specified (Firmware Improves Further Still !) and Affordable
---- *** Note Amazon have this player listed several times ! Search on 'BDP3000' in the 'Electronics' department to see them all. It's worth checking each listing as prices differ....!---[I've added photos to the item page to help explain myself regarding my comments about the LCD, on-screen display and remote AND a picture showing the specific information in 'Step 3' of the firmware update guide, as of Nov 09, which I believe is the bit reviewer 'complainants' have missed, hence not...

Does not play all Discs
This is a great player, however the first Blu-Ray disc we tried (Terminator: Salvation) would not play, even with the latest firmware update. Researching this on the Internet reveals this to be a common issue with that disc. Whilst not playing one or two discs might not be a problem for some, I'm not happy this will not continue in the future and have decided to return it. Plays DVDs flawlessly with excellent upscaling and is easily multi-region convertable. If you can live with the risk o...

Highly recommended bargain Blu-ray player
I bought this player two days ago from a high street retailer after reading excellent reviews. I've had no problems with existing dvds so far and all was fine until I tried Terminator Salvation on blu-ray which loaded only as far as the menu stage. I followed the manual instructions to download the firmware but kept getting a message 'no valid upgrade software found'. After four attempts I realised that the instructions in the manual were incomplete; the correct method is listed belo...

A good budget Blu ray player
At Amazon's price [] the Philips BDP3000 Blu ray disc player is one of the cheapest of the current range of players on the market today. It is a good entry level player with some useful features found on more expensive models.I have used a Sony BDPS350 player for around a year and it just has the edge on the Philips for picture quality when used with my Samsung full HD 1080p TV - but the Philips has a higher audio output. The Philips has three ways to connect to your TV depending on wheth...

Great machine at a great price!
After being stung by buying a Samsung BD1500, which I took back several times and ended up getting a refund as it had dangerous overheating issues and didnt impress me with the picture at all, Ive bided my time before entering into Blu Ray again. Ive never had a problem with any Phillips products and this low price convinced me to try again. I was not let down, picture quality is awesome and loading times arent too bad either, the upscaler did a slighty better job than my Phillips DVD player whi...

full screen for the first time
I agree with all the positive things which people have said about this player. I have one thing to share which might be of use to other potential purchasers (or even those who have bought one ) This is that the zoom feature is very good indeed at increasing the picture size of feature films on DVD in various widescreeen formats from the 60s . This was not possible on my earlier players without distorting body shapes etc so for the first time since I bought it I am now able to see South Pacific ...

Superb picture
Let's not get too technical about this. What you want to know about any blu ray/dvd player is the picture quality. The picture quality is superb. You really can't go wrong at this price and I honestly can't see how much better the more expensive models can be. I have seen the sony blu ray entry player, the Philips is a bit cheaper, the picture quality is the same. The Sony machine may look a little better. This one is bog standard black and no flashy bits. I was very impressed by the upscale of...

Major problem with dvd playback. Soon to be resolved!!
This machine produces high quality images, but like Kevin who also reviewed, the player will not play 2 towers extended edition disc 1. I experienced same problem. It also refused to play some BBC Miss Marple discs. As the discs play fine on another dvd player, it is clear that there are major technical flaws with this player. You have been warned...!!!Helpful Philips assure me that a new download available in early november will sort out the above problem in which case I would add a furth...

Good player at a very good price
This is quite a chunky piece of equipment. I see many reviewers find the appearance attractive, but compared with the current slimline Panasonic and Sony blu-ray players, I wasn't too impressed initially, the Philips being much higher and its curved corners looking a bit dated to my eyes. The remote again looks a bit, well, dated, to me. However it works fine, although I think the main play/stop/pause buttons should have been bigger. But it's the quality of the pictures and sound that rea...
