Cheap sata to usb3 adapter

I bought this to use as a generic sata to usb3 adapter. I don't have the external WD drive it's meant to interface with but that doesn't matter, I just want to use it as a stand alone adapter. It works great. I've used it with 2.5" and 3.5" sata drives already. You just slap this bad boy on to the back of the drive, plug in the power adapter and supplied usb3 cable and you're good to go. The transfer bandwidth is like native sata so I even cracked open my usb2 external drive and connect it thru

Works with any 2.5 or 3.5 SATA HDD ?

... this is a good product. Well in theory. The first one I had was DOA and the second works... but only sometimes. There is a degree of instability with non-Seagate drives - which (to be fair) is outside the recommended usage.3 stars seems fair - it would be lower if the manufacturer claimed compatibility with other drives. That said, I have heard that GoFlex HDDs don't always work and my first DOA unit (no lights) is a cause for concern.

This should be standard

The burning question is why aren't Seagate shipping these out with the Hard Drives as standard....Anyway product is exactly what I expected it to be and USB3.0 is a sound investment to upgrade USB2.0. For me personally this device has effectively doubled my seagate goflex hard drive speeds.The claims that USB 3.0 is 10x faster than USB 2.0 are just a load of marketing claptrap by the way, but to double the speed for practical, everyday use is still money well spent in my book.

Exactly as described

The adapter worked exactly as expected. I recently bought the GoFlex Home 2T disk drive which is meant to be accessed only through network. With the adapter now I can take the disk with me an copy very large files from somewhere else via usb connection without the bottleneck of network speed.

USB 3.0 adaptor - two thumbs up!

I've done some testing/benchmarking, and the USB 3.0 adaptor is FAST. Sustained read of 90-110MB/s compared to 30-35MB/s for the old USB 2.0 adaptor on my 2TB drive (with Dell XPS15). The drive still doesn't get hot as I've read the 3TB model does, and performance doesn't degrade. This is in a perfect world......real-world use is less than perfect, however. I managed to copy over 300GB of data at an average speed of 70MB/s using TeraCopy. That's still over 3x faster than the USB2 adaptor
