The item *is* the Segate STAE106, and comes supplied in a branded box with the base, a USB 3.0 cable with mini-plug, and multi-plug power adapter (the power adapter is the same as the one that comes with the (USB 2.0) drive).It was easy to swap out the old USB 2.0 - just pull the old one off and snap the new one on.I hooked it up to an ASUS U3S6 card, going through a x4 PCI Express interface.It is faster, as it removes any bottle neck on my 2TB drive, but the drive cannot satur...

Not crucial but nice addition
This really does just one thing: makes the compatible external usb hard drive into a usb 3 version. You will however still need a usb 3 port on your computer for this to work, so out of the box you still aren't ready to go.I already have usb 3 ports on my computer so was able to test this with the compatible hard drive. Really fast transfer speeds
USB 3.0 is a real step up in terms of speed from USB 2 or firewire...it truly is fast. This adapter is simplicity in itself. Just unplug the USB 2 adapter bottom of your GoFlex drive and plug the USB 3.0 adatpter in. The PC/Mac you are using needs to have a USB 3.0 port and you connect the drive with the supplied USB 3 cable. A good way of moving to USB3
You use this with an existing Seagate go-flex USB drive and connect it to move to USB3 speeds. You need to know that you have to have a USB3 port on your PC. This does not magically change it all to run at higher speeds.There is an increase in speed but it is not a huge, obvious increase. It is interesting that this 3.0 adapter is supposed to increase speeds (over USB 2.0) by up to a factor of 10. I think "up to" is the important part here, because it has hardly increased my old overall USB 2.0 performance at all. My device was supplied without a USB cable, although one is supposed to be included. It wasn't a problem for me, because I had a spare that did the job. Great idea
All those drive caddies, different boxes etc around your workspace? Simply stach raw drives and use them as you need - reduced requirement for loads of USB ports etc etc. In reality this does answer part of the problem as you can add a drive as you need it. But the drives are not really well supported when they are on. Works with the Seagate GoFlex Home 3TB Multimedia Nas Drive
I got this so I could transfer very large files to my Seagate GoFlex Home 3TB Multimedia Nas Drive (£175). It works great, just pull the one on the drive off and plug this one it. Couldnt be easier. Comes with 3 different plugs for all of the EU and a USB 3 lead.
