Small and fast
 
Great idea to have to base detachable from the drive. The unit is a lot smaller than other external drives I have used and its cheap to buy and cheap to add on fw800 or even maybe thunderbolt later on. You can even just shove any sata drive onto the base without it needing a case (although it will need some support). I was so impressed that I bought some more cases off from ebay and put some old drives in those as well to use with a fw800 base I bought. awesome!

Works well so far, but worried about reliability after reading other reviews
 
I bought one of these over Christmas, as one of the Maxtor drives on my media server had failed. Credit where it's due, the Maxtor had survived about three years of intensive, almost daily use. It didn't get many chances to spin down and must have put in nearly 10,000 hours of active use before developing the dreaded click of death.I've had trouble trying to replace the Maxtors in the past, with other drives from Western Digital and Verbatim causing problems with my network media player.

just bought this item for my husband for christmas after being recomended by a friend. He is really pleased with it as he can use it at home or when we go to our caravan. Found it easy to set up and use.

Good drive, but failed within weeks :(
 
This was for a back up drive for me for various different types of files and sources. The drive itself was faily quite and easy to use. The back up software on it is a good idea, however not that great as when there's changes made to file name/location etc the back up software ends up backing up mulitple copies which in the long run will use a lot of space.After a few weeks I started to hear a faint beep, after a while I tracked it down to the hard drive. After a few days it got to a point
