Great Product!
So far I've been very happy with this product. It was easy to install and I had it working within minutes of opening the package. I would actually like to give it 4.5 stars really, since the slightly sparse documentation is the only thing that lets it down a little bit.You can easily configure this drive to be accessed over the internet by anyone with a web browser (uses Macromedia Flash 10) without having to change your home router settings! You can either give someone a username and p...

Promising hardware, appalling software, poor support
[Update: I have increased the star rating to 3, now that Seagate have released a firmware update that fixes the speed issues. The other issues remain, however.]We needed a simple, no-frills NAS to store backups on a home network. The GoFlex appeared to fit the bill and at a good price, too. After using it for a week, the only reason I am not sending back is that it works (in the sense that it limps along), so I cannot reject it outright as faulty. So, what is wrong with it?What i...

Excellent value NAS, appalling software
Five stars for a compact, quiet NAS which sits unobtrusively in a corner without garish flashing LEDSNo stars for the software, which is truly awful, as other reviewers have noted.Do I regret buying this item - not at all, my WD WorldBook / Linksys NSLU-2 combo had failed (the Linksys controller rather than the WD drive I suspect) - and once the bundled software had been uninstalled I've been happily using this with alternative back-up software.

Yes: It's Good
Firstly; I use other peoples reviews to make my purchasing decisions, & try & review anything I buy, irrespective of whether it's very good or very bad. However, I do not plan on pretending to be a professional reviewer.I would like guidelines on how many stars out of 5 should be awarded?(I would prefer 10 stars maximum).I also own the Western Digital MYBOOKWORLD 2TB Network disc, so have a yardstick with which to compare the Seagate with. The Seagate starts & connects to the networ...

Mixed bag - appalling software
I bought the Seagate GoFlex Home 1TB after much research and a series of good reviews on Amazon. In the time between ordering and it finally being delivered (by the disgracefully unhelpful Home Delivery Network - Amazon, PLEASE find a better courier) some rather less favourable reviews have appeared. Having used the unit for a few days, I can see why. I run Windows XP, which has native support for network storage devices via Windows Explorer. XP handles the new storage perfectly well, just...

Shouln't be allowed ...
Sorryto report that this NAS box solution suffers all the problems and none of the benefits. The packaging and the description refers to it a "Easy Install" ...far from it.On a pretty simple domestic setup (two laptops, both running wirelessly, one XP one Windows 7 and an 02 broadband router) the automatic "find device" just didn't work. INstead the software and rivers installed and then I was faced with round upon round of looking up solutions n the website, and getting back emails from S...

Does the mediocre job, but with needless bloatware
Set up for this device is quite easy, install the software, enter your name etc and its pretty much done. the bad part of this is the software itself. its completely 100% redundant, crashes frequently, and requires some pc knowhow to get the drive to autimatically appear in the my computer area everything. it doesnt even work for me 100%. so in short, you kinda get what you pay for, this is cheap for 2tb(at the moment). Also note, its NFTS format for if your thinking of being fancy by wirelessly...

Excellent storage solution
Rather than have an external hard drive usb-connected to one machine, just get a network drive and connect it to your router. This 1tb drive allows anyone on your network to see and access files. You can set up different users if some files are private, and/or you can have public areas. It is also useful of course as a software backup.I found the set up very easy (just plug it in!) and the installation of the software was straightforward. The Seagate brand is well known for quality st...

Awful with Mac
I don't often write reviews, but if you have a Mac, beware this device. I bought it to replace a 1TB Buffalo NAS which had got a bit small for our multimedia storage. We have a mac setup with iMacs and MacBooks as well as an Apple wireless network.I have been running this for about 6 months. The GoFlex Home is constantly disappearing from the network - it is impossible to stream anything reliably, our PS3 simply cannot see any of the files, even after going through the very tedious proc...

Works for me but best to ditch the software
Installed very easily onto XP-based home network by accepting the default settings. I'm using the drive to store or archive Windows Media Center TV recordings and streaming this to other PCs on the network. It works fine. Bulk copying multi-gigabyte files to the drive wasn't exactly quick but speed is acceptable (about 4 to 5 minutes per hour of recorded TV) and you can go and do something else while you wait.Unfortunately Seagate has adopted a really "heavy-handed" approach to installati...
