3TB that are 3TB
This is a disk drive that does its basic work like it says. It is advertised to have 3TB, and, believe it or not, contrary to the practice in use so far to indicate Gross byte size, it does have Net, usable size of real 3TB. Had they stuck to the old system, they would have labeled it a 4TB.It has drawbacks, though. good but slow backup software
hdd is fine, no trouble there, but the software for back up ( and thats really why we need a 3tb isn't it!) is slow(took 6 days 24/7 to back up 1.9tb of stuff) confusing and will only back up c: drive without spending £40 quid or so was not impressed....and as everything i read kinda hinted it was the complete soloution i am dissapointed.....but if you want a 3 tb drive for storage, it's fine but be away it does crash i have had to unplug etc 3 times since had drive.

Vibrated and crashed!!
The drive was delivered last Tuesday and I set it up to copy over media files. After about 15 minutes the drive began to make a low rumbling noise and with vibration.Suddenly it crashed and turned itself off. I tried the drive a second time and again it was vibrating as if the arm was skipping on the drive. I've returned the item for a full refund as the odds of buying a drive at random and experiencing this type of problem would suggest statistically that Seagate have an issue with this prod...

Alas, mine is 2.72 TB, not 3..00 TB as advertised
Others seem to have better luck, but I plugged mine into two PCs, each of which regsistered the capacity as 2.72 TB. Now, it might be that it is a great 2.72 tb drive, but I won't be using it long enough to know -- I will return it immediately. I needed 3.0 tb, not less, for a reason. Does one star seem harsh? Not in my opinion -- it shoud be a given that products are as they are advertised. There was nothing on the box indicating that it would be less than 3.0 TB. There's no way to know until ...

Seagate 3TB
Does exactly what it says and with very little fuss (and no noise). Updates backup immediately. Backup is exact copy so no messing about. Works in the bacground. Upgradable. Very inexpensive for 3TB.

Seagate 3TB - Hardware good/software supplied not so good
If your a novice user who simply wants plug in this drive and have it backup what is on your C drive. It's very good product. If however your looking for a little bit more eg backup a network drive/usb then the default backup software you get is Mamemo which is useless. You can upgrade to premium which is also pretty useless ( there is better freeware software out there ). So the hardware is good but the backup software supplied is useless in my opinion. I also bought the USB 3 base, not sure ...

Excellent Drive
I have used Seagate for 15 years with negligible problems, a couple of old Barricudas developed a few bad blocks with daily use over 6 years ;pThese vertical standing units are excellent with almost no noise or heat. USB2 interface with a decent transfer speed. A huge 3TB (3,000GB) which is fantastic for archiving collections of movies/music and so on. Fantastic External Hard Drive
Have had this running for a good while now and don't know what people are saying about it crashing. Mine is working flawlessly with my Mac. Absolutely stunning, can't fault it at all. It's not as noisy as some people are saying either, had the other half to check. I'm using this as my main storage device with an older 500GB Seagate as my Time Machine, can't fault either of them. Bang on the buck.

Does exactly what is says on the tin
Bought this on PCPro recommendation and very happy, pity the 3TB is so expensive. Not using supplied backup software - have my own, so no comment on that. When operating and standing on a solid desk top it "hums" so you need a beer mat etc for sound insulation.
