Can't knock it,
The 1TB drive is perfect for backups. Quiet and unobtrusive it sits on my desk and does what it was bought for. For the money I don't think you can complain.

Does the job and good value
Very good product, bought one as a trial and three more afterwards because they were exactly right for the job. I use some for holding backups and some for storing video and music (all play fine from the disk). Reformatted to NTFS to allow compression, no problems at all (beware it takes several hours). The only very minor niggles were - 1. I'd prefer the power button to be on the front rather than fiddling at the back, 2. The USB lead provided is a bit short (fine to use but a bit longer would ...

Great value for money, and uses a WD Caviar 1TB disk
Arrived well packaged, and was easy to install and format. It came formatted as FAT32 but it was easily reformatted to NTFS, although you'll need to wait for over 3 hours for your system to complete this. This drive is currently great value for money. It looks good, it runs cooler than my 750GB external MyBook drive AND it contains a Western Digital Caviar 1TB hard disk, so no more thinking about it... add one to your basket now! :-)

Mo Memory
When I need to back up my computer, I've always used Verbatim CD's. They have never given me a moments trouble. So when I needed to back up my overloaded hard drive. I decided to go with a name I trusted, hence I chose the 1TB Verbatim Hard drive. Yes I could have brought cheaper, but as I said I trusted Verbatim.When it arrived I unpacked it, plugged it into the power socket, connected the USB lead. Installed the Nero search software and Hey diddle backed up my Hard drive. Its that simple.

Functional with reservations
Excellent delivery and packaging and works fine.However, one reason I selected this drive was because it came with Nero back-up software, but this refused to install unless I updated or uninstalled Nero Essentials 7, neither of which I wanted to do for reasons that will take too long to explain. So I reverted to using NTI shadow which is clumsy and unstable.The second problem is the on/off switch which defaults to off every time the PC is powered down. This means you have to remember ...

Power failed after 3 hours
Received item this morning. Started format to NTFS. After 3 hours the format failed, no power on unit.Just glad I didn't put any data on the disk. On my way to the post office to send item for a full refund.

Software would not work
Connected drive fine. Computer on XP found it straight away. Loaded the software. Seemed OK. Went to create initial backup and the software just froze. Tried again with the same result. Re-installed the software with the same result. Very disappointing as it looked like a good buy and looked to be a reasonable product. No stars. This stuff should be plug & play. Sent it back for refund. JT

Troublesome power switch
I've owned many external hard disk drives over the years (Seagate, LaCie, Iomega, Medion, Western Digital, etc.)I have just one complaint about the Verbatim product (I own two of them).The troublesome power switch on the back of the drive - unique in design to this make of HDD.It's not a normal user-friendly rocker switch, but instead a horrible push-button.So every time I want to use the drive I have to push the button on the back of the drive - can't leave it in a switc...

Drive Good but not software
I run XP which recognised the Drive right away, No problems.The Nero Software gave an option to back up another hard drive or Drives and seemed quite easy, I selected 2 Drives and away it went running for a few hours, after which it came up failed.I reformatted in NTFS quite quickly, and reverted to "Drag & Dropping" my folders into it, No Problems now.I like the Drive but not the Nero backup Software, My Maxtor drives had better backup software.

Excellent and simple to use.
this is my 4th external HDD and my 2nd 1tb HDD. I bought this as a PS3 external HDD where I put all my videos, Photos, and music. This is better than my other WD 1TB HDD. It is more user friendly all are straightforward. and The good thighs are it is 10-20 pounds cheaper than WD. I've been using verbatim since the floppy disk time way back 10-15 years ago. The quality and reliability of verbatim is realy verbatim.Highly recomended for prospective buyers.
