Poor Build Quality
I ordered 2 of these and had to return both as the casing was damaged in both instances rendering the hard drives unusable.The only saving grace is that the Amazon returns system was great and I had no problems getting my money back.To avoid dissapointment I'd stay away from this hard drive.

This is the second My Book I've had, and it suffers from the same problem as my previous 1TB model and also a WD Passport 320GB I was gifted. The drives often fail to appear on the desktop and Finder, and when they do, frequently disappear with a "Failed to eject disk properly" message. Apparently, the WD drivers are to blame, and WD support is next to useless (I was told to reformat the Passport. How can I do that if the disc is not recognised? I asked. No answer). Mac 2TB My Book
As a storage device, this is perfect for my needs. I use it to store my iTunes library (there is a lot of video in it.) externally and stream its contents to an AppleTV over a Wi-Fi network. No problems.

Major Design Flaws and Breaks Easily- all data lost
I bought this drive because it looked elegant (big mistake) and I thought it would be perfect for storing my large collection of music and photos to free up space my Macbook Pro.However this product has several major design flaws. Does exactly what it says on the box
I have backed up all my old home videos - SHAME! - onto this. Split it into 2 parts so the wife has half the space, all dead quick and easy. Very happy so far.

Excellent back-up
This hard drive required very little setting up and now provides an extra backup for photos on my iMac. I am a professional photographer and cannot risk losing original or edited files. I use this disk alongside another one set for Time Machine. It is easy to access and it is easily roused from sleep mode when required.
