Received mine today and although it's very good, I could be happier...

Firstly, despite its greatness as a media player, within a few minutes of owning it, I'd already found a couple of wmv. and flv files that would not play. Now... this is (correct me if wrong please) the fourth generation of these WD Lives, and I've 'upgraded' from a 1st generation WD Live. So, as far as file playing capabilities go, they may well be generations apart but they still have the same file limitations. Progress? Hmmmm, not in all ways it seems. My first gen WD Live didn't play all flv...

Sweet piece of kit, but the psu plug is terrible. Really!!!

I have this unit plugged in via a HDMI 1.3 cable in to a 20" Samsung 720p lcd tv.With a 500gig WD passport drive for storage. Everything is working well so far.The unit it's self is very small and compact, it does feel a little "plasticky" though.I don't think it would do well if it was being taken out and about a lot.Menu is easy to navigate with it's pane layout.Load times are not super fast but well acceptable.Play back is very good, no jitter on anything I've watched yet...

No Iplayer and US-Limited functionality.

I bought this some time ago, it went a bit flaky after a (official) firmware update but was soon put right. It plays most files well, it outputs hd video well - it isn't bad. If you are an American or an Angolan or an Outer-Mongolian resident then that may well be all you want but if you live in the UK be aware. This thing has no access to Iplayer. Why would you buy this one when there are others out there which have access to Iplayer. Don't believe the bumpf about a possible upgrade, I did...

Excellent little player!

Recent updates have addressed most of the issues mentioned by other reviewers. Network connectivity is seamless amongst the other PCs & Mac on my home network - I can stream and browse media without making any changes to the set up. The interface is an utter dream to use - so simple and intuitive! BBC iPlayer is now available (and displays perfectly on my 50" plasma) via another update. The WD support website is great for any issues and the downloadable manual is well laid out and explains a...

Terrible. This is actually a downgrade.

I own the previous incarnations of the WD TV (the original black and the grey "live") and they work flawlessly. Marvelous pieces of kit. This new model, however, hardly works at all. Bought it for another room since it has wifi built in, but it can't connect to any networked share, only media servers - and can't load subtitles from media servers. The wired connection is no better. Needless to say, if you network storage does not feature DLNA, it will be utterly invisible to the WDTV. It even h...

Highly recommended!

Purchased this after my previous media player went in the bin as was useless, this one is fantastic and a thousand times better, after connecting and sorting out the wi-fi, it then ran through I think two or three automatic firmware updates, though the final update seems a lot bigger and got me worried as it sat there for what seemed like ages but eventually finished, and there was the BBC iPlayer.... now we just need players for some other channels here in the UK.The only real problem I s...

Works out of the box

Un-boxed it this morning, plugged it in and away it went; it detected my network immediately and asked if I wanted to upgrade the firmware from 1.4 to 1.7, I pressed OK. I then went into the settings, first off the Time zone, very simple to do. The internet settings were next, I had to put in the work-group code, again very simple. I then choose how to display the folders, tried out iPlayer and one of the American TV channels, next a YouTube video all went well. I have two Western Digital extern...

Considered opinion of this WD TV option

I have used this product now for several weeks and find it to be very good. I use it to transmit my videos to any T.V. in the house and this it does very well.I just plugged it in and with the absolute minimum of set-up connected to my radio network, my kids have taken over and think its great.

Not user friendly in any way

I have had this product 2 days now. I have not been able to use it, it sees my wireless network but doesn't connect with it. Any instructions with it are useless as are any you can find on the internet. I tried posting a question to the WD support website and as yet I have not got any reply. On the forums they are way too technical to be of any use unless your knowledge-base is very high.Should I ever get it working I am prepared to change my rating of this, but at the moment and in the ab...
